12 Most Anticipated Summer 2017 Movies!

Welcome to our rundown of the most anticipated Summer 2017 movies!
We’ve rounded up the top 12 movies that we’re most looking forward to; whether they’re going to be great, interesting, or just plain fun. Check out the list below (in no particular order) to see iCodis’ staff picks:

  • Alien: Covenant

The highly anticipated “Sequel” to Prometheus, as well as the Classic Alien series, we see Ridley Scott back in the directors seat. While many people weren’t huge fans of Prometheus, you’ve got to give credit where credit is due; beautiful cinematography, amazing set design, as well as an amazing soundtrack.

It looks like Ridley Scott will be going back to the roots with this one, a big complaint towards Prometheus was the lack of chemistry between the crew, we’re happy to see that for the Covenant crew this isn’t just a job, they’ve jumped into the deep end for humanity’s sake!

  • Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 2

Now who isn’t absolutely hyped for the return of Starlord and the other Guardians of the Galaxy! Peter Quill meeting his father, the ever expanding cast of top-notch actors, and James Gunn’s directing should make at least one summer sequel an absolute must see!

  • War of the PLanet of the Apes

Andy Serkis reprises his role as Caesar, the first Ape with human intelligence in the third installement of the Planet of the Apes reboot. Whether you’re a fan of the original trilogy, Rupert Wyatt’s 2011 “Rise of the Planet of the Apes”, or Matt Reeves’ 2014 “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes”, we’re sure that this upcoming summer blockbuster will be chock-full of surprises and beautiful cinematography.

  • Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets

LUC BESSON IS BACK! And we are PUMPED! The French director, famous for “The Fifth Element”, “Lucy”, “The Lady”, and – most notably – the one and only “Leon; The Professional”, is diving once more into the realm of sci-fi. This famous French graphic novel adaptation is sure to wow it’s viewers. Just check out the trailer to see the scope of this movie, the cinematography looks absolutely stunning, set-design seems to be out of this world, and we hope that Cara Delevigne can keep up with Dane DeHaan’s performance!

  • Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell no Tales

The fifth and final instalment of Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean series, we’re happy to see Johnny Depp return as the ever entertaining and quirky Jack Sparrow Captain Jack Sparrow! Featuring Javier Bardem (from “No Country for Old Men” and “Skyfall” fame) as the primary antagonist Captain Salazar, it’ll be interesting to see how Directors Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg tie the series together!

  • Atomic Blonde

Not much is known yet of David Leitch’s upcoming movie. We have a plot, we have a trailer, and we have a stunning Charlize Theron as an undercover MI6 agent during the Cold War era. What we can tell you is that it looks to be a tonne of fun; action, high-jinks, and more than enough explosions to satiate even the biggest Michael Bay fans! Check out the trailer below:

  • Wonder Woman

While DC’s ventures into the superhero action flicks has been more miss than hit – cough cough Batman V Superman – we hope to see a return to form with the upcoming Wonder Woman. The beautiful Gal Gadot is sporting the Wonder Woman tiara, in what looks to be an action packed movie that will be the starting point for the “Justice League” movie, which will be released later this year! While we’re still a little hesitant, we’ve chosen to give Zack Snyder one last chance, here’s to hoping it’s as good as his 2009 “Watchmen” adaptation!

  • King Arthur: Legend of the Sword

We’re now entering the realm of the “movies that we’ll watch simply out of curiosity”. Directed by Guy Ritchie, we’re hoping that it’s more along the lines of his brilliantly original movies such as “Snatch”, “Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels”, and “Rock’n’Rolla” rather than his “Sherlock Holmes” movies. While the latter were entertaining, we’re hoping for the old tongue-in-cheek Ritchie style of comedy, brilliant soundtracks, and innovative editing techniques.
Charlie Hunnam stars as King Arthur, and while he may not be an A-list Hollywood actor, we hope to see the brilliant “Sons of Anarchy” actor deliver a stunning performance alongside one of Englands most creative Directors.

  • The Mummy

A remake of the 1999 “The Mummy” stars Tom Cruise as Nick Morton, we’re not sure what to think about this one, hit or miss we’re sure Cruise will make the movie entertaining. Starring alongside Sofia Boutella (“Kingsman”) and the notorious Academy Award winner Russell Crowe (“Gladtior”,”A Beautiful Mind”, and many many more), The Mummy may be reboot movies only hope this Summer.

  • Spider-Man: Homecoming

Starring Tom Holland as Spidey, we’ve only had the opportunity to see him don Peter Parkers Superhero outfit in “Captain America: Civil War”. We’re excited to see what he can do, as this is the 6th Spider-Man Movie since Sam Raimi’s 2002 “Spider-Man” starring Toby Maguire. I’m sure we all remember the incredibly cringey “Emo Peter Parker” scene in “Spider-Man 3”, as well as Andrew Garfield’s solid delivery in “The Amazing Spider-Man” films from 2012 and 2014. Here’s to hoping this is finally a decent Spider-Man Movie, if Marvel can’t pull it off, then who can?!

  • Transformers: The Last Knight

Ohhh boy, Michael Bay is back – and he’s brought more C4 than ever before! The 5th Bay (Bae?) Transformers Movie sees Mark Wahlberg return from “Transformers: Age of Extinction”, where the rest of the non-CGI cast went we’re not sure, but we do know that Anthony Hopkins will be making an appearance as Sir Edmund Burton. We’ll let you form your own opinion, just check out the trailer below.

  • The Dark Tower

We’ve saved the best for last: Nikolaj Arcel’s daring adaptation of the Stephen King classic series of the same name. The trailer is still MIA for this August release, but check out the poster below that gives you a glimpse of Idris Elba, Kathryn Winnick, and see if you can spot Matthew McConaughey’s Man in Black.
